Inter-Library Loan Service
The Library will borrow books that we do not own from other Libraries in Ontario through Inter-library loan.
- If you have a Cobourg Library account in good standing, please speak to submit an Inter-Library Loan request.
- Requests may also be submitted over the phone (905-372-9271 ext 6220)
or by email.
- Requests can only be made by using an Adult or Youth Library card (ages 13 and older).
- When you submit a request, our Inter-Library Loan staff send the request out to other participating libraries in the province.
- Delivery of Inter-Library Loan materials will take place via Canada Post, and may take between 4 to 6 weeks to arrive.
- You can have up to two (2) Inter-Library loan items requested and/or checked out at one time.
Renewing Inter-Library Loan Items
- Please advise the Library at least 5 days before the due date if you wish to renew your item
- Inter-loan staff will contact you to let you know if the renewal was approved or not approved by the lending library
Overdue or Lost Inter-Library Loan Items
- A charge of $0.25 per open day is charged for all Inter-Library Loan materials (including child and youth materials).
- If an Inter-Library Loan item is Lost or Damaged, the cost of the item, plus a $3.00 fee will be charged to your account.
What can you request? |
- Books that have been published for more than 12 months
- Microfilm from provincial and national archives for genealogy research
- The Cobourg Public Library can order in microfilm reels from the Archives of Ontario upon request.
- Such orders will incur a shipping charge of $15.00 per reel.
- This charge must be paid to the Cobourg Public Library prior to the reels being ordered.

- Reference material
- High demand materials
- Book Club sets
- Items published within the past 12 months (please suggest an Adult or Teen/Child item to purchase.)
- Whole issues of magazines
- Articles which are available in the Cobourg Public Library's collection in electronic format
- Talking Books, DVDs, Blu-rays, Music CDs, or Games
- Items that our Library already owns
- Items from Academic Institutions, or Libraries outside of the province of Ontario
