Progressive 2SLGBTQ+ flag raised at Victoria Hall and Jubilee Park

Cobourg, ON (May 29, 2024) – On Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11 a.m. the Town of Cobourg will host a flag raising ceremony out front of Victoria Hall to kick off Pride Month.

The month of June is proclaimed as Pride Month in the Town of Cobourg. Pride Month brings Cobourg together to celebrate the history, courage, and diversity of Cobourg’s Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, and Questioning communities (2SLGBTQ+). Members of the community are encouraged to reach out, connect to support each other and celebrate together. The annual flag raising ceremony is an opportunity for the community to show solidarity, promote dialogue, and strengthen our collective commitment to inclusivity.

The Town is committed to addressing the unique challenges facing 2SLGBTQ+ communities to build a more inclusive and equitable Cobourg. The Progressive Pride Flag will be raised at Victoria Hall (corner of King St. and Second St.) and Jubilee Park for the month of June.

All members of the community are welcome to join Mayor Cleveland, members of Council, members of PFLAG Canada – Cobourg Chapter, and Town of Cobourg staff representatives for the flag raising and brief remarks.

Community PRIDE Events:

Cobourg Police Community BBQ
The Cobourg Police Service will kick off Pride Month by raising the Pride flag and hosting a community barbeque.

Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the police station (107 King Street) for the flag-raising, followed by a barbecue. Everyone is welcome.

This event is free. Donations to support the local PFLAG Chapter are welcome. 

Downtown Cobourg and Northumberland Pride Parade 2024
The Northumberland Pride Parade will take place Downtown Cobourg on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. The route will begin at the Police station, traveling down King St. and finishing at Victoria Park. This year’s theme is "Small Town, Big Pride," and all participants are encouraged to show the power and pride of our community.

Downtown Cobourg PRIDE
Downtown Cobourg in partnership with Northumberland Pride will be hosting a street celebration Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Road Closure: King Street from 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 1 to Sunday, June 2 at 11:30 a.m.  will be closed to create a pedestrian friendly walkway.

YMCA Rainbow Run
The YMCA Northumberland’s Rainbow Run is a celebration of love, acceptance, and diversity in a welcoming atmosphere that also supports the Y’s charitable activities. Lace up your sneakers and walk or run, all while spreading some rainbow magic for the LGBTQIA2S+ community and Pride Month!

The Rainbow Run takes place on Sunday, June 2, with check-in at 8:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9:30 a.m. starting at Cobourg Yacht Club, with the route going by waterfront and through downtown.

Get ready to rewind the clock and relive the neon-soaked glory days at the "Back to the 80s Pride Prom," presented by Northumberland Pride! Dust off your shoulder pads and tease up your hair for the ultimate blast from the past on Friday, June 7, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Mill Restaurant & Pub, 990 Ontario Street Cobourg. Tickets are $45, available on Eventbrite.
