Cobourg, ON (March 7, 2025) – The Town of Cobourg would like to notify all residents and travellers of upcoming construction on the William Street Bridge.
Beginning the week of March 10, 2025, rehabilitation work of the William Street Bridge is anticipated to commence and will last for approximately eight months. This duration reflects the entirety of the project; however, the work will be separated into stages.
Intermittent impacts to local property owners are expected to be minor in nature as there will be vehicular lane reductions from four to two lanes affecting William Street, with one lane remaining open in each direction throughout the construction duration. During construction, sidewalk closures will occur dependent on phasing.
There will be signage at appropriate locations to direct pedestrian traffic to use the nearest signalized intersection. All attempts will be made to have one (1) sidewalk open on either side of the bridge during the construction.
During this period, however, every effort will be made to ensure residents retain access to their properties. Prior to the start date, the Contractor may mobilize to the site to place signage and erosion and sediment control measures.
Access to properties for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be maintained, except for very short periods. Signage will be installed to provide details on traffic access.
Although construction can be disruptive, we ask for your patience to complete this work. Heavy equipment will generate noise and vibration at times.
The Contractor will ensure that garbage and recyclables pick-up and all deliveries (including mail) are uninterrupted by this construction activity.
