Cobourg, ON (March 13, 2025) – The Town of Cobourg Public Works Division is pleased to inform the community that new Community Safety Zone signs have been installed in the St. Mary Catholic Secondary School and Northumberland Christian School areas.
This initiative is part of our commitment to enhancing safety for our children and community members. Last September, Council approved By-law 052-2024 to establish additional Community Safety Zones for school properties fronting public highways, after identifying roadway sections where public safety is a special concern.
In accordance with By-law to Prescribe a Rate of Speed (053-2024), new 40 km/hr speed signs have been installed on Densmore Road. These changes are essential for ensuring the safety of pedestrians and drivers alike.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in adhering to these new safety measures.
Cobourg Police Service reminds drivers to slow down and be observant around schools, crossing guard locations, local parks, and school buses. Community Safety Zones surround most schools and parks; as such, all Provincial Offence Notice fines are doubled for breaking the rules of the road.
