(Cobourg, ON) February 26, 2019 – Venture13, Eastern Ontario’s newest innovation and entrepreneurship centre, is pleased to support the newly announced 2019 Winter and Spring Youth Programs being offered by the Northumberland Makers which include digital video making, culinary and visual arts, coding, robotics, programming and more.
The Northumberland Makers are an anchor community partner organization to Venture13, teaching DIY skills and programming that offer project-based applied and experiential learning reflective of the history of Northumberland. This spans across agriculture, manufacturing, education, and the innovative technologies such as robotics, coding, prototyping, design and STE(A)M (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics).
“We believe in cultivating a strong maker community, one that exchanges knowledge, collaborates and offers a communal area to make, create and inspire,” said Phil Mandryk, President of the Northumberland Makers. “Our new youth programs being offered at the MakerLab at Venture13 are supporting our mandate to offer community programming in an accessible social environment.”
Situated in the MakerLab, an 800 square foot community makerspace that encourages applications of technologies and is outfitted with essential tools for the community including 3D printers, an extensive tool library, the Mindcraft education edition, an oscilloscope, printed circuit boards, raspberry pi, sewing machines, a soldering iron, a computer controlled vinyl cutting printing device and more!
“The Northumberland Makers through Venture13 have an incredible community impact in our Town that is growing denser by creating an opportunity for our youth to learn, create and collaborate,” said Mayor John Henderson for The Town of Cobourg. “I encourage youth to try out a course or two, visit the MakerLab and join their collaborative community.”
