(Cobourg, ON) March 1, 2016 – The Town of Cobourg has appointed Dean Hustwick as the new Director of Parks, Recreation, Culture and Tourism, effective the first week of April 2016.
A new position for the Town, Mr. Hustwick will be responsible for the overall direction and administration of the department, including parks, trails, recreation facilities, tourism and culture programs and services.
"I am excited to finally have a Director of Parks, Recreation, Culture and Tourism in the Town of Cobourg,” said Mayor Gil Brocanier. “Given the changing demographic and the increasingly diverse interests in recreation and culture we can not meet our strategic plan objectives without someone who can seamlessly organize existing activities and events all the while developing a plan for future growth."
Hustwick recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Sport Alliance Ontario, where he led multi-year strategic planning for Ontario’s amateur sport sector.
“I’ve visited Cobourg several times over the past few years and love the town and the opportunities it offers to both residents and visitors of all ages and lifestyle,” said Mr. Hustwick. “I am really looking forward to joining the Town of Cobourg and working with Council, staff and the community to continue to grow recreation, culture and tourism services.”
Mr. Hustwick has also acquired considerable governance experience through his current position as a Director of Athletics Ontario and his former positions as Chair/Director of an arts centre and Director of a youth centre in British Columbia.
Hustwick holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Toronto, a Master of Public Administration degree from Carleton University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School and a Certificate in Public Sector Leadership from Rotman School of Management. He has over 20 years of executive and management experience in municipal and provincial governments. Hustwick has served in multiple roles throughout his career including Director of Tourism Agencies Branches for the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Director of Communications for Junior Achievement of Central Ontario and as a City Councillor for Parksville, British Columbia.
