(Issued December 14, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. EST) – The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that the Cobourg Community Centre will remain closed until January 11, 2021 to further reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 within the community.
On December 11, 2020, in accordance with Public Health Ontario and local health authorities the Town of Cobourg announced the temporary weekend closure of the Cobourg Community Centre due to facility users coming into close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The entire facility underwent a thorough deep clean and sanitization.
Pending that temporary weekend closure the Town of Cobourg’s Emergency Control Group, in consultation with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit, further decided to err on the side of caution and extend the closure of the community centre over the holidays. The decision was based on overall community safety with the intent to further reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 within the community.
"We are taking every necessary step to protect our community by stopping any potential spread of COVID-19, which is why we have decided to extend the closure of the community centre until after the holidays,” said Tracey Vaughan, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Cobourg. “We will reassess in the new year based on the current numbers and where our public health region currently falls within the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework: Keeping Ontario Safe and Open.”
Effective immediately all programming has been cancelled. Anyone who utilized the community centre from Sunday, December 6 through to Friday, December 11, 2020 are encouraged to self-monitor and be cognizant of COVID-19 symptoms, which include:
